Types of Wick from Hayes & Finch

Hayes & Finch offer an extensive range of candle wick – with over 1000 different combinations. In-house manufacturing allows complete flexibility in production, resulting in the ability to create new candle wicks based upon individual requirements. We value feedback from our customers and our range continues to grow with each new development in the candle industry.

The flat and round braided wicks detailed below can have additional filaments of cotton, paper, zinc, nylon and tin silver to facilitate support or to produce differing burning characteristics (as detailed on the opposite page). The information given here is intended only for general guidance; if you require specific information or advice we recommend that you use our Consultancy Service, whereby our professional support team will guarantee to match your exact wick requirements to suit the specifications of your finished candle.

Wax Coated Wick

Covered in a specially formulated wax coating, this wick is particularly suited to hot pour processes and is also recommended in votive, container and tealight applications.

Wick

Round Wick

This is a cotton wick with a tube-like structure (hollow). It is mainly used in oil burners. Round wick is also used in the capillary watering process of pot plants.

Wick

Flat Braided Wick

A triple braid of the highest quality, natural, 24 gauge cotton. Flat braided wick can be provided in its natural form or bleached and solutioned. The bleaching process removes the impurities from the cotton and produces a pure white wick. The solutioning process involves emersion in a blend of chemicals specially formulated to assist burning, reduce carbonisation and similarly reduce smouldering when the wick is extinguished.

Wick

Cotton Cored Wick

Of the cored wick group of products, cotton cored wicks produce the hottest flame and are supplied in the widest variety of sizes.

Wick

Paper Cored Wick

This is the second hottest burning of the cored wick family and is effective when used with paraffin-based waxes. Made from 100% natural fibres.

Wick

Nylon Cored Wick

Nylon cored wick is more supportive than paper cored; however, it is less effective when used in taller container candles.

Wick

Tin Silver Cored Wick

Tin silver cored wick burns hotter than zinc and provides excellent support qualities, even with a minimum coating of wax. This wick is particularly beneficial for gel candle manufacture.

Wick

Zinc Cored Wick

Offering the coolest burning wick and the greatest rigidity, zinc cores are commonly used in larger gel candles. Zinc cored wick is especially favoured by candle manufacturers in the USA.

Wick

Flat Braided Webbing Wick

This wick has a decorative appearance and is commonly used in oil burners, oil lamps and novelty candles.
